Three Poems

sobre fantasmas

No pretendo ofender a nadie, pero tengo derecho a no estar aquí, a haberme ido, teniendo en cuenta que mi partida es sólo una consecuencia. Y no pretendo que te sientas culpable (al final, el que no está presente no siente culpa); es solo para defenderme… de todos ellos, que acechan en estos rincones que ahora habito.

y haberlos encendido

para FH

Y nadie encendía las lámparas.
Y buscamos conexiones
incluso sin luz.
Porque siempre se puede vislumbrar en la penumbra.
Y tal vez cada color mar solo sombra.
Rubor inútil y molesto.

Y nadie sintió la oscuridad.
Y perdimos armonías
por exceso de sol.
Porque nunca hubo nada por venir.
Y tal vez necesitábamos
una cerilla ligera, tal vez incluso

amanecer.

Suspensión

Vuelvo a ese estado mental en que la gota se separa de la tela, y ya no leo fragmentos, y todo apunta hacia el mismo recinto, muy perfecto y necesario. Paso el tiempo en ese estado de semi-trance en que aparece una esperanza, una posibilidad que aprieto en mi puño, un anhelo (tu anhelo) que me va construyendo hasta que la mano en mi pecho casi toca el órgano que truena dentro. Estoy de vuelta en ese lugar precario en el que el anhelo atemoriza al miedo así como lo tienta hacia adelante, y todo depende de la paz que pueda conservar aún sabiendo que mi deseo pende sólo de ti.

Graciela Yáñez Vicentini (Caracas, 1981) is a poet, essayist, proofreader, and cultural promoter. She earned a degree in Letters from the Universidad Central de Venezuela. Under her pseudonym, Egarim Mirage, she has signed two verse collections: Espejeos al espejo [Mirrored mirrors] and Íntimo, el espejo [Intimate, the mirror]. She is presently the editorial coordinator of “Papel Literario” [Literary paper], the cultural supplement of the newspaper El Nacional in Venezuela. Her texts have appeared in several anthologies within her country.

Arthur Malcolm Dixon is co-founder, lead translator, and Managing Editor of Latin American Literature Today. His book-length translations include the novels Immigration: The Contest by Carlos Gámez Pérez and There Are Not So Many Stars by Isaí Moreno, both from Katakana Editores, and the poetry collections Intensive Care by Arturo Gutiérrez Plaza and Wild West by Alejandro Castro, both from Alliteration Publishing. He works as a community interpreter in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where from 2020 to 2023 he was a Tulsa Artist Fellow.
